Things that are awesome....

Nonsensical email banter amongst friends that I think have to do with "getting" the boy, Alice in Chains, political posturing, and nachos but I am really not sure.

Checkerboard Vans for toddlers.

Mission of Burma playing in Atlanta in January.

I am about to be published.

Still Awesome!

University of Arizona Marching Band and Radiohead

For some reason I have an affinity for marching bands. Geek...maybe but this is cool.

Of Course....

Of course I am excited about the national shake up that was midterm elections. The Dem's got the house, potentially the senate, and evil Rumsfeld has resigned. That is all I have to say about it.

On a lighter note, the boy told me about this food item last night and I am pretty sure that I threw up a little in my mouth. I just hope he doesn't tell his brother-in-law- about the "turducken" (yes that means that it is a chicken and a duck stuffed in a turkey). Rest assured that if he does, we will have to watch him deep fry it this Thanksgiving.

Kick Myself....

Don't you sometimes want to just kick yourself when you realize that a band is awesome but you have come around to them pretty late. I did it with Nick Cave and at this moment I am mentally kicking my own ass. I have just discovered how incredibly awesome the Mercury Program is. Yes, I know. You could have told me that but I wouldn't have listened. I have to come around to these things on my own time and then pretend like no one had ever told me how great they were.

P.S. Get out and VOTE!!!! No excuses. You have until 7 p.m.. GO DO IT NOW!

Irony...

The guy in the office adjacent to mine has a handle bar mustache and not because it is ironic or funny. It isn't because it is ironic or funny like say, listening to the Steve Miller Band is both awesome and ironic/ funny at the same time. It is nowhere near as funny or ironic as listening to the Steve Miller Band's Greatest Hits and knowing all the lyrics.

Occupation....

I am in the midst of an existential career crisis and I wish it would stop. It has gotten so bad that I caught myself the other day thinking it wouldn't be so bad to be a stay at home mom (No emails berating me for the whole stay at home mom thing! There is nothing wrong with it. It is just not the career for me). I decided a long time ago that enjoying work is important but to never loose sight of the "common good". In my idealistic world, the results of and 8 hour work day would benefit the "common good" in some way shape or form. I want the work I do to matter. I don't wonder though if it isn't all an academic exercise bogged down in bureaucracy and administration. In the end, the "common good" doesn't see it, know about it, or reap the benefits of any of it. My cerebral olympics will just be that...an exercise...a waste of tax payers money...an ambitious project that dies a slow painful ivory tower death and never sees the light of day. While I benefit from enriching myself intellectually, does it really mean anything outside of my office?
